日本語で言えば、別れの盃、と言ったところでしょうか。
蛍の光が歌われる前は、もっぱらこの歌が別れの定番でありました。もちろん、今でも別れの歌として愛されています。
NHKの朝ドラ、マッサンでもヒロインのエリーが口ずさんだり、イギリスのシンガー・ソング・ライター、エド・シーランもこの曲を歌っています。
